Sir Patrick Stewart OBE, born on July 13, 1940, is an esteemed English actor with a career spanning an impressive seven decades across various mediums such as theatre, film, television, and video games. Throughout his illustrious career, he has garnered numerous accolades, including two Laurence Olivier Awards, a Grammy Award, and nominations for prestigious honors like the Tony Award, Golden Globe Awards, Emmy Awards, and Screen Actors Guild Awards. In recognition of his contributions to the entertainment industry, he was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1996 and knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 2010 for his remarkable services to drama.

Sir Stewart made his first professional stage appearance on May 19, 1959, at the Theatre Royal in Bristol with the Bristol Old Vic Company. He played the role of Cutpurse in Cyrano de Bergerac, directed by John Hale. After working at Manchester’s Library Theatre, Stewart joined the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1966 and stayed with them until 1982. He was named an associate artist of the company in 1967 and acted alongside performers like Ben Kingsley and Ian Richardson. Stewart’s television debut was in January 1967 on Coronation Street as a fire officer. In 1969, he had a brief TV appearance as Horatio in a scene from Hamlet opposite Ian Richardson.

During the early 1970s, he was recruited by UCSB professor Homer Swander to teach American university students about Shakespeare In 1979, he received the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his exceptional portrayal in “Antony and Cleopatra” in the West End. His television career commenced in 1967 with a role in “Coronation Street,” and he went on to make a significant impact on the big screen with notable roles.

In the late 1990s, Stewart took on the role of Professor Charles Xavier in the X-Men film series, a character similar to Picard. Initially hesitant to join another movie franchise, Stewart was convinced by director Bryan Singer. He was later joined by Ian McKellen, who played Xavier’s friend and nemesis, Magneto. Stewart portrayed Xavier in seven feature films and voiced the character in various video games.

In 2008, he reprised his role as King Claudius in “Hamlet,” earning him his second Olivier Award and his first Tony Award nomination for the respective West End and Broadway productions. However, it was Sir Patrick Stewart’s portrayal of Captain Jean-Luc Picard in “Star Trek: The Next Generation” (1987–94), its subsequent films, and “Star Trek: Picard” (2020–23) that catapulted him to international stardom. He mesmerized audiences as Captain Ahab in “Moby Dick” (1998), brought Ebenezer Scrooge to life in TNT’s adaptation of “A Christmas Carol” (1999), and portrayed King Henry II in Showtime’s “The Lion in Winter” (2003).

He announced his departure from the X-Men franchise after Logan. In 2022, Stewart appeared as Professor Xavier of Earth-838 in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.Sir Patrick Stewart’s remarkable performances and his skill in portraying intricate characters have earned him a revered position in the film industry.

In addition to his acting prowess, Stewart has also lent his voice to numerous animated projects, notably bringing the beloved character of Cpt. Hook in “Peter Pan and the Pirates” to life.
